It’s another fulfilled day today. We go to the centerlink to apply for the LLNP. The woman receiving us speaks very strange English and we can barely understand what she is saying. She contacts TAFE and tells us the staff will call us back for the assessment appointment. Then we rush to the railway station, buy two off-peak full tickets at 18 dollars and rush to the tram station to take the tram for IKEA to buy a bed and a dining table. For the first time, I use the so called metcard. We validate on the validator, not successful for the first time and then make it the second. It’s quite exciting actually when you learn something new, although very tiny things. We choose a nice seat and look out of the window just like going sightseeing. The tram moves quite fast and it is somehow quite proud and even rude as it occupies the railways and only stops at the traffic light post. We pass a lot of suburbs and we can compare their difference. I see some houses are really luxurious with vast gardens. After half an hour’s drive we finally arrive at IKEA. A woman actively tells us where the entrance is, very nice. We get in and find out we are in a huge shopping mall. Much nicer than the one at Box Hill but much western too. We spot the K-Mart and recall ajun said his melway was bought at K-mart. We go in and look for the book on the sale shelves. Not there. Then the staff ask us to search at the auto section. I can hardly understand what he means by auto section until I suddenly remember auto means automobile. We do find the book priced 31.77. 34th edition for 2007. not cheap but are already on sale as the full price is 40. we buy it and go upstairs to the furniture shopping mall. Spacious and decorated very much alike the one in Guangzhou. It’s really hard to believe we are now thousands of miles away only in a few days. The things are very alike too. The only difference is the price is quite low here compared to other furniture shops while quite expensive in GZ compared to the local furniture icons. And the most astonishing thing is the delivery fee, 65 dollars! Even more expensive than the furniture itself. As a Cantonese saying goes, the soy source is more expensive than the chicken. We look around and then take the tram back home. We eat lunch and rush to the railway station to go to nunawanding to see if we can decide on which bed to buy at fantastic. Ajun is being really helpful by providing with us a lot of useful information about buying things and doing registration procedures. The railway station is very old, is not comparable to GZ’s metro, oh miss GZ very much! when dabi is beside me, I am not worried about getting lost. He get the right direction and find the street selling furniture. But they are all expensive. Our final hope lies in fantastic. We find it and get in and the layout is a bit like golden seahorse. The dining table is not cheap, as dabi’s dreamed price is a set with five pieces for 50 dollars, although it’s too far to reach in my eyes. We find the bed same as ajun’s and compare with others and still feel that one is the most suitable one concerning the design, quality and height. Then the mattress, very expensive, at least 500 each. We ask the salesperson for help. They introduce to us some cheaper ones. The cheapest one is the foam mattress 120 but we choose the cheapest one with elastics. It’s the firmest mattress in the showroom and I like it very much although the warranty is only 7 years. we decide to buy these two immediately so that we don’t have to bear the softest bed in the world anymore. Altogether 443 with 45 delivery fee, 199 for the bed and the mattress respectively. We book the delivery day to be on Saturday, April 21. I feel very good walking out of the shop. We own our own bed!
